THE BOX……!!!!!! A proper period shagreen eye shaped box….. A child, long ago, has scribbled on the silks, which I think is ridiculously cute. The huge double sided locket is pretty cool too 🤣 A Georgian locket (1780s, 1790s) with a massive, puffy magnifying glass - such a high dome. Feels wonderful in the hand, like a sea tumbled pebble. Haloed in perfect white enamel (all original, no touch ups). Probably a piece memorialising an unmarried person or a child. This crisp white enamel is in turn haloed in beading. To the back is a second glass (a little damage to the gold where someone prised the glass out long ago). I bought it containing the photographs of an elderly couple from the 1870s or so - him and her, the man to the back, the woman to the front. I opened it up, and slipped them behind the purple silks that were hiding inside. This way, the story of the elderly couple stays with the locket. I just feel it’s right. The scribbles of the child are part of the story too.
